Special Education Services

Some students have special needs that require additional supports beyond those in a classroom setting, and many students have special education needs. Some are formally identified through the Identification, Placement and Review Committee (IPRC) process and have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) that guides their programming. Others have an IEP without the formal identification.

Special education provides opportunities for students to grow and learn in a supportive environment that recognizes individual differences and promotes the full potential of students.

Open Learning Classroom

Champlain Discovery Public School offers programming for higher needs students through our Open Learning Classroom. Students in this classroom receive modified or alternative special education program and are placed in this classroom through a County Identification, Placement and Review Committee (CIPRC) meeting.

Special Education Resource Teacher

Our school provides the services and support of a Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT) who works with identified students to provide accommodations and/or modifications to the curriculum. Educational assistants are available for unique circumstances to meet the specific needs of some students (i.e. those who require additional safety or medical support).

School Support Counsellor

Champlain Discovery Public School is fortunate to have the services of a school support counsellor who works with identified and not-identified students in all grade levels to promote pro-social behaviours, positive social skills, encourage regular attendance, assist with peer relationships and more.
